Hi! My name is Rosemary. I am 50 years old and I live in the Harlingen area in my own house. I have lived independently in the community for nearly 20 years! I first lived in an apartment and saved my money to buy a house.
At one point, I had to quit my job at McDonald’s so I would not lose my Social Security. Then I went to a self-determination training and learned that I CAN work some! So I went back to my old job at McDonald’s as a janitor and lobby attendant. I love to talk to customers.
In my spare time, I love to paint. Since my team at the self-determination training encouraged me, I am thinking of selling my paintings at a local art fair in McAllen. Many people say they like my paintings. I recently got more canvas so I can paint more. I also want to make new friends and go out more.
Tropical Texas Behavioral Health helps me stay organized. They helped me get my house painted on the inside. My next goals are to build a fence and turn my carport into a garage or storage area.
To me, self-determination means doing what you have to do to accomplish your goals and get what you really want.
